Charging is billed apart from parking
This is the whole thing, and it is the one people get wrong. The price you see for a carpark is what it costs to leave a car there. Plugging that car in is a second tariff, published in its own block on the same card, and most of the carparks with chargers list one. 45 of 47 do.
110 Queen Street West caps a weekday day at $24.00 and charges $2.00 an hour to charge. Three hours on a Tuesday afternoon is both:
110 Queen Street West, three hours from 1pm. $24.00 to park, plus three hours of charging at $2.00. The left figure is the one every parking site shows you.
Our own price is the parking. Read the charging block beside it and add the two, which is what the card is asking you to do.
Level 2 and DC fast are not the same purchase
A carpark can offer both, at prices that are nowhere near each other. 110 Queen Street West asks $2.00 an hour on its Level 2 chargers and $15.00 an hour on the DC fast ones.
Over three hours that is $6.00 against $45.00, and the faster one is not three hours of work: DC fast is for topping up in twenty minutes, not for the duration of a visit. If the car is going to sit there anyway, the slow charger is the cheap one and the fast charger is a way to spend $39.00 on nothing.
Charging has maximums too
The parking maximums have counterparts. 110 Queen Street West caps charging at $6.00 between 6pm and 7am, so an overnight charge costs $6.00 rather than thirteen hours at $2.00.
It is the same shape as the parking rule and it rewards the same thing: arriving in the evening. Both meters stop.
Find the charger before you commit to the carpark
A carpark having chargers does not mean you can reach them. The cards say where they are, in the plainest possible terms, and the detail is worth reading before you drive in.
110 Queen Street West puts it like this: the chargers are on P1 at the south side, and can only be entered from Queen Street North or Chestnut Street. Arrive at the wrong entrance and you are in the right carpark on the wrong level.
That note is on the lot page for every carpark that publishes one, under the rates.
Indoors matters more than it sounds
24 of the 47 are garages rather than surface lots. In February that is the difference between plugging in and standing in the weather to do it, and it keeps the cable and the port out of the ice.
Filter for both at once: covered parking with charging.
What to search
The EV filter is on the results row rather than behind a menu, so it takes one press. Everything it returns is a carpark the operator has told us has chargers, never one we guessed at from the name.
